The different types of device in which videogames are executed are known as platforms. The four most popular types of platforms are PC, video game consoles, portable devices and arcade machines.

Video game consoles or videogame consoles are domestic electronic devices destined exclusively to reproduce videogames. Created by various companies since the 1970s, they have generated an immense business of historical transcendence in the entertainment industry. The video console by antonomasia is a desktop device that connects to a TV for viewing your images, but there are also screen pocket models included, known as portable video consoles.
The PC or personal computer is also a video game platform, but as its function is not just running video games, it is not considered as a video game console. The PC does not enter any generation, since every few months new pieces come out that modify their benefits. The PC by general rule can be much more powerful than any console on the market. The most powerful support graphic modes with resolutions and graphic postprocessing effects much higher than any console.
Portable video consoles and other pocket appliances have the ability to reproduce video games. Among the latter stand out today mobile phones (particularly smartphones) that, without being videogames their primary function, have been incorporated as their technical benefits have been increasing. Other portable devices of growing popularity in recent years are the tablets.
